TRACKADEMIA: “Here’s my review: suck my fat cloud!” – The Dallas Cowboys

Albuquerque, New Mexico gave us the Altair 8800 in 1974 via Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems, an American electronics company. It was the first commercially successful personal computer composed of an 8-bit microprocessor running at 2 MHz clock speed and 256 bytes of static RAM, or otherwise, an absolute unit for tech heads everywhere. As of last Friday, Brooklyn, New York gave us “Here’s my review: suck my fat cloud!”, a track off of The Dallas Cowboys’s newest EP, Touching is Punk. Like the Altair 8800, the song is full of incoherent jargon that perks up the new age hyperpopper’s ears, while the convoluted elements still click together to make one juggernaut of an anthem.

The stylophone synthesizer lay as a foundation for the Flight of the Concords-esque vocals, which is as confusing as it is satisfying. Like whatever, it harvests a similar structure as the music self-proclaimed “DJs” spin at Market Hotel, but I like listening to these Brooklynites talking about California weed against an 8-bit backdrop because it makes the otherwise panic-inducing mention feel fun. “Here’s my review: suck my fat cloud!” would theoretically get lost in what seems like a largely diluted and uninspired era for electronica, but something about The Dallas Cowboys feels too much like 2009’s Gidropony to resist.
